So Joyce's viewing was last Friday. It was my first viewing I had ever been to and it was just really strange. They did a good job making her up. She just looked like she was sleeping and that she was going to wake up and scare the shit out of all of us. But she didn't. We stayed at the viewing the entire time. There were only about a hand full of Pi Phi's that attended, and there probably at least the same amount of Tri Deltas. Her burial and memorial service took place on Saturday. I had to work that morning, so I could only attend the burial which took maybe 10 or 20 minutes total. It sure was a hard thing to see happen to such a wonderful woman. We have amazing stories to tell about her and she will always be in our hearts. The disease she died from is called Eosinophilia.
Yesterday I went for a followup to the Urologist because of my last stone. I had done a 24 hour urine test about a month ago, so I was finding out my results. Not only did I sit in the waiting room for over 2 hours, I then sat in one of the exam rooms for another 20 minutes or so. I went during work hours and boy was that stupid! I should have known it was going to take FOREVER!
Anyhow, the doc came in and met with me and went over my labs. Most everything on the labs was in the correct range. But there, of course, were a few things I have to work on and/or increase/decrease. My volume was very low. I should have been around 1600-2000 mL and I was at 800. My Magnesium level was at 30.4 L when it should have been in the range of 73-122. Believe it or not, my calcium was not high. I was at 168 (range is 100-300). So that is actually good news! The only other thing that was really low was my citric acid panel. It was also low. My Oxalate levels were very high though. The range is supposed to be 4-31 and I was at 34! So, the doctor wants me to go onto a low oxalate diet, drink more and drink more citric (thus lemonade).
For my low oxalate diet, I am to avoid the following foods:
Beets, Beet tops, Black tea, Chenopodium, Chocolate, Cocoa, Dried figs, Ground pepper, Lambs quarters, Lime peel, Nuts, Parsley, Poke, Poppy Seads, Purslane, Rhubarb, Sorrel, Spinach and Swish Chard.
I am also supposed to have the following in moderation (or sparingly):
Beans (green and wax), Blackberries, Blueberries, Carrots, Celery, Coffee (roasted), Concord Grapes, Currants (red), Dandelion Greens, Endive, Gooseberries, Lemon Peel, Okra, Onions (green), Oranges, Orange Peel, Peppers (green), Raspberries (black), Strawberries, Sweet Potatoes.
Now, this is just from the list that the doctor gave me. I looked up "low oxalate diet" on the web today and found a larger list of what I should and should not eat. Let me tell you...it was certainly a killer to see how many items I absolutely love that are on the "no" list. So hard. I guess I will just have to work my way into it. I would say "try and eat a little more healthy" but with some of the things on the list being healthy, that is certainly going to be a problem.
Looks like I will have to play it day by day right now. Maybe if I just drink more fluid and limit my foods that are the list I will be ok? Time to ponder.
